New rule: no ragebait

I'm surprised this wasn't already a rule honestly. This sub is for people who like 14ers, not people who like drama.

Its fine to do a public service announcement about rules and why they are important. Posts that encourage people to engage with resources that empower them to make better decisions and increase their understanding of these public lands are helpful and encouraged.

It is not fine to post a nonconsensual picture of a stranger doing something wrong and promote strife because of their ignorance. This goes for all the low effort things we all hate; bluetooth speakers, dog poop in bags on trails, dogs off leash, people going off trail, and so on. These posts do nothing to encourage better behavior and are often examples of bad behavior themselves. If you want to consume or farm karma with media whose purpose is to humiliate others this sub isn't for you.

New mod - minor changes, comments, feedback

Hi all, I was put on as a new mod. I mod some other outdoor hobby communities and cattailmatt asked me if I wanted to help out. Please read through the whole thing if you are going to comment.

I've already made a couple of changes which I wanted to go over, and then I'll go over a little of how modding will change here with me.

  • Post flairs - There are now three post flairs; NSFW, Open, and Don't share my location. In accordance with cattailmatts rule 3 now if you don't want people sharing the location of your picture you can just add that flair. Both that flair and the NSFW flair will lock the comments of the thread. No more people sharing your "secret" spot, and if you choose to show a body part no more creepy redditors commenting on your body.
  • Rule 6 & 7 - If an unmanaged hotspring is closed for maintenance or rehabilitation due to over use or destructive forces we won't allow posts highlighting it(news about it would likely be fine). If a post goes against the rules of a hotspring it won't be allowed.
  • I've added some automod features and changes to filtering mechanisms to lower spam.

Rule 2:

I'm changing not a rule, but a philosophy on the NSFW posts. NSFW posts are still entirely allowed, however we won't allow OnlyFans or similar accounts to advertise here anymore. We have no problem with sex workers, but one, I don't like the association of sex work with naturalist hotsprings, and two, this sub is not for advertising...

I've been reviewing the metrics of posts and OF posts bring in a ton of views to this sub vs regular hotsprings posts. Over time that will twist the community to be hotsprings themed porn fans vs hotsprings fans, which is not the theme of the sub.

Anyone is free to post pictures enjoying hotsprings in any amount of clothing, but only posts and profiles that are unaffiliated with OnlyFans or its equivalents. Being nude at hotsprings is the best, **but for a huge amount of us that is not a solicitation for sexual arousal.** For many of the places I go such solicitations and activities are strictly prohibited and grounds for being permanently banned.

Separately from that, not really changing anything but stating outright, under rule 2 promoting apps you built using AI is not allowed. These aren't any different from other self promotion, but have become a problem in many subs recently. This isn't to specifically target AI, but rather to just state that its still self promotion and not allowed.

---

About my moderation: I will prioritize this subs civil, established community members and posts of trip reports of hotsprings. I would like to cut down low effort posts asking for 'Is there a hotspring near me' as there are hundreds of guides in print and online that can answer that question(not to mention a search bar).

Feel free to offer feedback, but keep it civil and productive. And please remember that while the mods may try to guide the sub in a direction, it goes where the contributors take it.
