Super Frustrating, I will just be posting to my blog next time with a link back here.
This is a known, persistent bug/limitation on Reddit, particularly on desktop, where editing a post that contains both images/media and text causes the media to be stripped out. The platform treats the edit as a "text-only" update, deleting the image gallery or attached image. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
