Feeling nervous about the career

Hello! I (F24) am about to begin my vet school journey in a week. I’ve been working towards this for years. I graduated with my biology degree in 2024 and for two years have been working towards get accepted. I got my acceptance this past February to ISU my in state school and was beyond happy.
Recently Ive been reading more and more about veterinary professionals regretting going into the field. Now mind you, I knew about the debt to income ratio(bad ROI), high burnout, suicide rates, negative client experiences, etc.
I worked in a clinic for four years and loved it, it was hard but I enjoyed it. It’s been my dream for a while and now for some reason I’ve begun to feel scared and like I maybe shouldn’t have chosen vet med. I’ve heard if you think you could do something else, to do that instead cuz it’s not worth it being a vet.
For years, I was set on it 100% but now I’m in my head. I’m terrified that what I once thought is my dream that ill graduate and hate my job and be in $200,000 in debt. I can’t tell if it’s just me being nervous for change and unknown future or if I truly am no longer wanting it. I read on Reddit all the time the regret vets have and it scares me. I’m not sure what else I could do for a career so I feel lost. My friends say I shouldn’t give up my dream and give it a shot. He told me try it for a semester and if I truly do not think it’s for me to drop out, then I wouldn’t have as much debt. Truly all I want for my life is to be happy, financially stable and have the ability to travel since it’s such a big passion of mine. I heard vets get very little time off and that makes me nervous. Please give me advice no

Army Health Professionals Scholarship Programs and Veterinary Residency

I’ve been admitted to vet school to start this fall 2026. I’ve been debating how I can graduate medical with little to now debt and have been referred to the Health professionals scholarship program for vet school option.

My question is I want to become a board certified veterinary radiologist and wanted to know since I’ll be in the Army HPSP after finishing vet school, how will that affect my residency.

I know I’ll commit that many years this they paid for my school to the army but are their radiology residency options? Just curious if anyone has input

. I’m open to other residencies like cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology and pathology but radiology is my top choice at the moment from shadowing.

Vet school debt

I was recently admitted to my in-state school(ISU) for this fall 2026. I am feeling anxious about accruing debt since i graduated undergrad without any debt. I’m not sure how much I’ll graduate with but I wanna try to only take out as much as I need. I know I’d have to take out some for living expenses, etc too so that would increase the total as well. My goal is to specialize in something I enjoy and also has good QOL/work life balance. I also want to become more financially literate in investing, retirement saving, owning property for income, and more to help me be able to retire comfortably and not so late (ie 60+)

My questions are:

- what’s the estimated time it will take to pay it off? (I usually hear anywhere from 10-20+ years)

- is specializing worth it even tho it will push my loan repayments a little while in internships and residency?

- I hear a lot of negativity around if vet school is even worth it anymore especially in this economy in the United States right now. I hear so much about the burn out, abuse, work life balance, taking one’s life, and all other things negative. It’s truly making me question life, my career path and my existence as a human. I truly just want to be happy, be able to travel and enjoy my life not having to retire at 60.
