Update on Runa!

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know Runa’s teeth extraction surgery went very well! I had a bit of a scare during day 4-5 post-surgery because she was eating close to nothing BUT we’re already in day 10 post-op and for the past 5 days she’s been eating so well 💕💕💕

Thank you for those who shared/donated to our GoFundMe, it meant a lot and it got us to this point where she finally is able to eat without pain.

On other news, she’s gonna be introduced to her seeing sister Leia, they have been interacting through a mosquito net for the past two months so I’m kinda of excited and scared at the same time. Leia is 9 years old (see third photo where she’s staring at the door where Runa was at) and I feel like she’s getting better at being used to Runa but still if she gets too close she’ll hiss at her. I’ve had the feliway running in both rooms, doing scent swapping and giving Leia churu every time Runa appears. Hopefully this will help but also super open to suggestions you all may have :)

That’s it for now, I’ll probably take Runa to a vet check up at some point but I think she’s having an amazing recovery. I already feel like she comes more often to the door to say hi and scratch her post.

Update on Runa: asking for a little help to get her dental surgery 🩷

https://gofund.me/4542e89c1

Hello again! My name is Isabella, and I recently welcomed a very special cat named Runa into my life. Runa was rescued from a patio in Almería, where she had been forgotten and left without proper care.

With the help of a wonderful rescue shelter, she made the long journey to Madrid and into my home. Unfortunately, after her arrival, I discovered she suffers from a severe case of gingivitis stomatitis, which requires urgent dental surgery. On top of this, she has needed treatment for parasites, a feces analysis and blood tests to check her kidneys.

Normally, I would do everything I could to cover these costs myself. However, just a couple of months ago, I lost my beloved cat Bowie after an unexpected intense illness, and I am still paying off the medical bills from all we did trying to save her life.

Now, Runa’s surgery and ongoing care are more than I can manage alone. The dental extraction alone she needs could cost up to 800 euros, but the final amount will depend on her x-rays and the extent of the surgery.

I am reaching out for help so that Runa can get the surgery and post-op care she desperately needs.

Your support will go directly toward her medical expenses and help give her the healthy, comfortable life she deserves.

Thank you for reading all the way here, any help from sharing to a donation helps immensely!

Everyone, meet Runa 🐾 Her story + looking for advice from experienced blind kitty parents <3

I adopted Runa on sunday, she is 2 years old and was rescue from the streets of Almería, Spain. She travelled 6+ hours with other rescues and arrived to the outskirts of Madrid were I picked her up. I really don't know a lot about her background other than she was rescued blind (most likely from a flu infection from when she was younger) and that she was fostered by an old lady that had her in like a patio, which apparently was quite scary to her since it was a highly transited space. She didn't even have a proper name back then, they would refer to her as something like "blind-y" in spanish.

I decided to adopt her because I recently lost my 11yo Bowie (my soulcat) to a very sudden and traumatic pancreatitis and I really wanted to open my home to a cat that really needed it which is why I came across this sub that eventually let me to my new baby Runa (which means Rune in spanish).

She has been at home for almost 3 days now, isolated from my other cat Leia (9 years old). I live in a one bedroom apartment so I basically moved to the living room with Leia just to give Runa some space.

Even though she was very scared when she arrived on sunday night, she immediately found her food, water, bed and litter with no issues whatsoever. I had gotten her a staircase/scratchpost for the bed (because its a tall bed) but she literally didn't even need it, she managed to get on it and off of it with ease. I had read here before how independent blind cats were but since this was my first time adopting one I was still amazed. It has been great just seeing how slowly she has become comfortable with the room and with me coming in to leave food and talk to her. She still hasn't let me pet her but I think it's still soon and she has done amazing progress anyway.

When she arrived the vet at the shelter noticed her teeth in the back of her mouth were in very bad condition, she's gonna need surgery to have them removed but for now we're focused on her adjusting to her forever home and gaining some weight. Has anyone had a similar experience? any tips or considerations when it comes to these types of infections? do I need to take any precautions with my other cat?

Also, tips on managing the introduction with Leia are super welcome! I'm following the scent swapping approach and eventually will have the open door with net/baby gate... but honestly I'm open for any other tips you guys may have around introductions as well.

Thanks in advance!!
