Trying to be flexible, but I don't want to pay for their change of plans
New tenant moved in earlier this year and just told me they want to leave. The reason isn't anything wrong with the property itself. They got a new job much farther away than expected and don't want the commute anymore.
I told them I'm happy to work with them and won't make things difficult, but finding a replacement isn't free. There are listing costs, screening costs, time spent doing showings, and all the usual stuff that comes with filling a vacancy. Their position is basically that since they're giving notice, they shouldn't have to pay anything else. My position is that I'm willing to help, but I don't think I should be the one covering all the costs created by their decision. moreover, it's stated in the agreement
Am I being unreasonable here?
