ESA Confirms Minecraft & CoD Private Servers are Illegal and Piracy
In light of today's podcast I wanted to address the issue going on currently with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) in California. The Stop Killing Games movement has been pushing consumer protections in various countries around the world, and just a few days ago the Protect Our Games act was shot down in the California committee by a vote of 4-3, because 3 members of the committee abstained from voting preventing a majority victory.
The ESA is a lobbying organization representing Microsoft, Google, Nintendo of America, EA, and Ubisoft, and at this committee hearing the Vice President of the ESA stated that private servers for Minecraft and CoD are illegal, and equivalent to piracy.
Don't take my word for it, though, watch the video.
They even doubled down on this statement.
This group spends millions of dollars annually lobbying again consumer protection for this members, and this is what victory looks like to them.
