I'm new to the federal hiring process and recently received TJO for a GS-8 Step 1 position.

I plan to accept the TJO and then request a step increase based on Qualifications.

A couple of questions for those who have gone through this or work in HR:

Should I ask for a specific step or a specific target salary?
What are the realistic chances of getting a higher step approved for a GS-8 role as a first-time fed?
