Wondering about on-call shifts

So I'm currently working in southern Ontario and looking at municipal job postings. Lots of them seem to include on call rotations, which are fine with me, but some specify that you have to remain in an 'immediate vicinity' to your work center. My question is how far is this range?? Do you have to live within 5-10 km of your shop? Immediate vicinity just seems like a close range.

Need some help getting started

I'm in southern Ontario, Canada. I'm wondering how much experience I would need as a 20 year old to get hired as an oit. I'm studying currently to take wastewater collection and treatment, and I'm working currently as a 2nd year millwright apprentice. What are my chances of finding a job with my experience? Also, what is the day to day work like if you work in the field? Is it mostly routine, lots of driving? Thanks!

What does it take to become a pilot?

Hey all, I'm looking to get a general understanding of what it takes to become a paid pilot. I understand I'm probably going to get a lot of discouraging responses, but what is the cost, time investment, etc to become a helicopter pilot with enough certification to find work. Thanks!

What makes collection so bad?

I see a lot more complaints about collection than anything else, so; if you have worked in wastewater collection before, what makes it worse than treatment or drinking water? Or what makes those other positions better?

Applying to a water sampling job

Hey all, I'm located in southern Ontario and I'm curious about applying to wastewater sampling jobs. I've heard from a few friends about jobs that involve driving around, collecting water samples in either a small team, a pair or even by yourself. I'm currently a millwright, I work long hours/weekends/nights/on-call and the work is pretty physically difficult. The money is great, but I'm realizing that it might not be sustainable for my whole life. Collecting water samples seems like a nice change of pace after I have some money saved, so I'm not picky about pay either. Does anyone have advice about switching from trades to water sampling? What are some good companies/municipalities to apply to if I'm interested in the kind of work I described? I'm also considering getting my oit for wastewater collection and/or treatment. Any advice is appreciated.
