Z-Sync: I built a companion app that puts your tabs & spaces on your phone

TL;DR: Z-Sync, a free and open source companion app, with Spaces, tabs and Essentials on iOS and Android. Repo and download links: https://github.com/Kjell6/Z-Sync

First of all I want to make it very clear: this app is unofficial and not affiliated with Zen. I failed to make that clear enough in the past. I want to apologize to everyone I may have deceived in any way, and I especially want to apologize to the Zen team for creating this inconvenience. That being said, I would like to re-announce the app:

I've used Zen as my daily driver for a while, and the one thing that always bothered me was that my whole setup lived on my desktop. Z-Sync is the thing I built to fix that: a free, open-source companion app (not a whole browser) for iOS and Android. If anyone here remembers the old Arc companion app, that's roughly the idea.

What it does:

  • Syncs all your spaces, Essentials and tabs between your phone and desktop
  • Share a link from any app straight into a space, as a pinned or normal tab
  • A small quick browser, so you can check a link or tab without leaving the app

You simply need to sign in with the Mozilla account you already use (with cross-device sync enabled) and you are ready to go!

It's completely free, no ads, and open source under MIT. The app is live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. You can find the links and source code in the GitHub repo:

I'd really love feedback: what's missing, what's broken, what would actually be useful to you? I'll be in the comments. Bugs and ideas can also go straight to the GitHub issues.

Edit: a note on safety. You sign in directly with Mozilla, and the app never sees your password directly. It doesn't request things like saved passwords or credit cards (You can also exclude this Data from cross-device sync in Zen). There is no server of mine and no analytics, and what it reads stays on your device. It's open source, so anyone can check it. Everyone should decide for themselves, and it's completely fair if it still feels too unsafe for you.

Edit 2: I underestimated how much this matters to people, so, to be clear: the code is AI generated. I reviewed the code and the architecture throughout development, with a focus on security, especially around sync, and users on both platforms have tested it. I still put a lot of work into this, and I do not think it makes the app any worse
