Making friends as an adult is harder than dating at this point

I recently realised that making new friends has become weirdly difficult.
As a guy, if I message other guys, many don’t respond because they are usually more interested in connecting with women. And if I message women, they already have tons of messages, so it gets lost or ignored.
So where exactly do normal people go to make genuine friends now?
I’m not looking for anything complicated. Just people to hang out with, go for walks, play sports occasionally, explore places, have good conversations, or just make the city feel less lonely.
Feels like everyone says “make friends,” but nobody talks about how hard it actually is when you are new to a city or don’t already have a circle.
Anyone else feeling the same?
