PSA to Babyfems: Wear your skirts on your natural waistline!
I see this all the time with people taking and posting pictures with fem clothes... and I can empathise; trying to figure it out on your own isn't easy.
So I'm here to help!
Modern mass-consumer pants have conditioned people to wear bottoms—regardless of what they are—right on their hips. Wearing a skirt that way makes the drape awkward and flat, and hurts the over-all outfit appearance. That's not where a skirt usually should sit!
Most skirts are designed to sit on your natural waistline, usually at or just above your navel. Find your pelvic bones and just above the highest point and right below the ribs that's the natural waistline.
Skirts create a nice silhouette when they're worn properly, giving the appearance of wider hips and longer legs. Amazon basics skater skirts are usually mini style so they can be intimidating to pull so far up, but they really have to be worn properly to accentuate your hips. If it feels too short you could always pair it with bike shorts or opaque tights.
And while some y2k-style skirts really are low rise, so they might sit a little lower depending on the cut, usually if it has a nice large waistband it's meant to go on the waist—y2k skirts usually don't.
If you're buying online, the product description should say if a skirt is especially low rise or "drop waist" or similar words. Otherwise, it goes on the waist line.
This has been a PSA. Thank you!
