Need help identifying a very unusual 90s Jackson MIJ single cut
Hi everyone,
I’ve owned this Jackson for around 17 years and I’ve never been able to properly identify it.
Here’s the story: I bought it from my old guitar teacher, who used to play with some pretty serious musicians back in the day. Even a Jackson specialist in a guitar store once thought it might be fake at first because he had never seen one like it — but after inspecting it, he confirmed it was a real Jackson.
Specs/details:
Probably MIJ (Made in Japan)
22 frets
Bolt-on neck
Tune-o-matic bridge
Very compact/small body
Originally came with Duncan Designed pickups
Transparent serial sticker used to be on the back of the headstock, but it disappeared over time
Blue transparent finish
Extremely resonant and aggressive sounding guitar
Current pickups:
Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 neck
Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB bridge
The guitar has insane harmonics, deep palm mutes and a very fast/aggressive response. It almost feels like a weird mix between a Jackson, a PRS and a Lag Roxanne.
The closest thing I’ve ever seen online was a red Jackson someone referred to as a “JJ1/JJ3”, but I never found solid information.
Does anyone recognize this model or know anything about obscure 90s MIJ Jackson single cuts?
Thanks!
