On October 9, 1986, the Fox Broadcasting Company officially launched operations, with the debut of The Late Show starring Joan Rivers. Her guests that first night were Cher, Elton John, Pee-wee Herman, and David Lee Roth. Its initial primetime schedule, however, didn't launch until six months later--April 5, 1987, with the premieres of Married...with Children and The Tracey Ullman Show.
