Problems

When an operator takes a bus (or is assigned a bus) do they check out to make sure stuff is working on that bus?

I've noticed often that the fare box is not working, the cctv system is not working, the announcements are not working, the inside LED sign is not working, or the destination signs outside are not working, or the AC (in summer) or the heat (in winter) is not working or the stop signals don't work. Also if the traditional fare box is not working aren't you supposed to be able to use the Charlie Card on those new pay as you boxes on the bus?

Bus Questions

I have a couple questions in regards to buses.

  1. Why all of a sudden are so many buses having trouble changing the destination signs? This seems to have started recently and is infecting alot of buses.

  2. When someone comes on the bus in a power char why don't they use the securements? Isn't the operator required to fasten the securements? On the ride they automatically use the securements. So why don't they use them on buses?

Rules of the road

Are MBTA bus drivers exempt from rules of the road?

I've noticed they're often speeding, running red lights, all on very crowded, busy streets. And missing stops. Maybe if they slowed down they would see that person waiting at the stop even if cars are illegally parked. Do bus drivers ever get nailed by MBTA police or police from that city or town?

I'm absoluteley amazed they don't end up in crashes.
