rigged animation test (bryce animated object tool) + a link to a video of the tool in action

One issue with my other posts was that those animations could have realistically been made in Bryce as-is since they were mostly rotating or moving meshes, So I just wanted to show off something that couldn't easily be made with base Bryce.

If you watch the video, you can see that there's a lot of dead weight after the render is finished, that is some spare time I kept in for when I finally add the Bryce environment animation function, I'll probably cut 80% of that out by release.

This is one mesh, but if you're using all six meshes it should take take you about 40 to 60 seconds per frame (Not counting render times),

If you're using multiple meshes, make sure that you have a small cube that is at the same position across all the meshes like the one here on the left, that is how the program removes the model between every frame

Finally, you can see here that the mesh is moving up slightly as the animation goes on, this is a problem I fixed with earlier animations by adding an incredibly thin very large ring above and below the mesh, so it stays centered, But I forgot to do that here, Instead I just added a very large cube beneath the model that you see pop up near the end😅.

Bryce 7 animated Object Importer tool test 2

Big improvements since last time!

First of all, I got the object smoothing to work consistently.

I upgraded from 3 to 6 animated meshes.

the program now stops when you finish an animation.

you can choose how many frames to render.

and I removed the materials tickbox since you can just choose whether or not to use a Bryce material by leaving the tack on the board.

And you can customize your render resolution.

There are still a few things I need to do before considering this ready for release though.

First there's a problem where it (VERY RARELY) won't load the mesh on some frames, If I can't fix that directly, I should be able to fix it be letting you choose to render a specific frame in the sequence Instead of all of them at once (I'm probably gonna do that anyway though)

Second, I still haven't added support for the bryce built in animator, but don't worry that's on the way too!

Third is that I need to make sure that it will work on multiple resolutions, since a good portion of this tool relies on screen coordinates, I'm either going to have to figure out some kind of workaround or make multiple versions of the application for different resolutions.

Bryce 7 animated Object Importer tool test 1

After testing Susanna (The Animated Object Importer from my last post), I wasn't able to get to work on modern systems or interface with any version of bryce beyond 5.5.

I decided to look through the manual a bit, and I found that Susanna essentially automates the keystrokes to import a model, so I did my best to recreate it with Clickteam fusion!

It's still under development but currently:

It can import up to three meshes at a time (Obj file sequence).

You can use the pin icons to select a bryce material for each mesh (But only from the user tab).

And you can choose whether to smooth the mesh or not.

It still has its fair share of problems though:

It's a bit buggy, this GIF is edited because the main body piece kept switching between smooth and flat and smooth.

You'll have to put a little square in the corner for each mesh so it can delete the mesh and take it to the next frame.

Only works with bryce 7 on a 1920X 1080p screen because I have to direct the mouse cursor to specific coordinates to import meshes, add materials, and tell whether or not bryce is busy Rendering importing or smoothing by reading colors on specific spots of the screen
(Although I plan to make a 1280/780P version so everyone can use it If they change their display settings).

So far, it doesn't interface with the animation timeline, although that's what I'm currently working on.

There's also no reasonable way for me to path an animated mesh, So I'm not even going to work on that, also you can't animate the textures on the animated models.

All that aside once I fix the smoothing issue, add a 1080p or 720p version, and get the animation timeline working I should be ready to release it

Anyone knows if the Susanna Bryce animation method still works with modern systems?

So, I was researching Metacreations (The company behind bryce) and its software history.

While checking out some forums I found a post asking about importing Poser animations, and they pointed them to a software called Susanna.

It advertises itself as a method for importing obj animations straight to bryce and the site includes an example video on how to do such.

Does anyone know if this still works?

(the software costs around $50 and I don't want to buy that if it's confirmed to not work on modern systems)
