Today at the embassy

My wife date finally came. Our interview was at the US/ Guatemala embassy and this was a first stage document review.

Things went well and smooth. they asked for her documentation and also my divorce decree from a previous marriage. And we were asked to come back by 7am tomorrow.

They said our baby wasn’t allowed. Shes 9 months old and they said babies are a distraction. So that’s kinda odd that state on their site that our baby would be allowed but now we have to make plans with her family (3 hours from the embassy) and then make a 3am drive to the capital. sucks.

Not seeing any other update, Im expecting to get verbal approval and a refusal notice. Kinda crazy they make you go through this process, every step, just to be refused anyway.

My wife’s upcoming visa interview and the shape we are in

I realize that our situation isn’t unique. I have been following all of the threads since the start of our process almost two years ago. Im a born US citizen and I married a woman from Guatemala, my parents home country. When we got married we filed our paperwork with USCIS and although we didn’t live together, I flew frequently to be with her and a year or so later we finally had a chance to do a “honeymoon”… and a month later, we’re pregnant!

We thought we might have an opportunity to have the baby in the US but the process moved to NVC after our daughter was born. Now she is 9 months old and our interview is on May 20. We are excited! But this pause has put a huge damper and a lot of doubt about when this is going to end.

Like many of you, Im optimistic but Im struggling to keep that optimism on a daily basis. Im waiting for things to change for the best and if that means the government decides to enforce some sort of bond, I would happily pay it to have my wife and daughter be able to join me here in the US and be able to finally live out our life together.

Many of my coworkers and friends have no idea this pause is even happening. In fact, when Ive explained it to them they seem in complete disbelief that this can be paused… “isnt this LEGAL immigration?!” It is and like many of you, we have done everything right. We have filled out all the paperwork, paid all the fees, waited all the time, and responded to questions from the government in lightning speed. And now that we are less than 2 weeks from our interview… it doesn’t seem to mean as much knowing that we will get a piece of paper that says “sorry, not now”.

We are struggling as a family. My wife needs my support. My daughter needs her dad. and I need them both..!

Wish us luck on our interview and thanks for reading this.
