Berberine is making me feel weak

I recently posted here asking advice wether I should start taing berberine for my insulin resistance and I did! I also messaged my doctor and she agreed so I got it.

I’ve been taking it for 3 days and noticed that it’s been making me feel weak and drowsy? The second day I took it, I had it with some protein yogurt and apples with peanut butter which I thought was enough of a “meal.” I felt weak and shaky right after and figured it probably made my sugar drop too low so I immediately took a spoonful of honey and it fixed it after a few minutes. (Lunch time around 1:30 pm)

I took a note of that and took it today with a heavy meal, salmon + asparagus + broccoli + a bit of brown rice, but I still felt weak. I wasn’t shaking but I was definitely feeling too weak. (Breakfast at 10 am)

Am I taking it wrong? Is there anything I should do to make this experience better or is berberine just not for me? Is it too early to give up on it? Haha

I saw on here say that to take it at night so you can just “sleep off” the side effects but I’m scared to do that because I don’t want my blood sugar dropping toooo low at night. Any advice on what I can do?

Thoughts on Berberine?

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 13 (9 years ago) and have done everything I could to lose weight. I’ve cut out dairy and gluten multiple times, I’ve been on and off inositol for years (I don’t think it works for me), I’ve even gone vegan for a few months. I go on walks, I life weights 3x a week. Nothing is working, I still got all the symptoms especially the stubborn insulin resistance. Now I’m thinking of trying out berberine.

My question is can I start berberine without consulting my doctor first? I have an appt in a month but I kind of already want to take berberine and can’t wait that long. For those who have found success on taking berberine, how did you start it and what brand would you recommend? I want general thoughts on this, thank you so much in advance!
