>More than 1,000 protesters gathered on Sunday in Brussels to condemn what they have called the "Crucke flight path", a new route over the capital that was supposed to be temporary but has been in use now for over a year.

>This flight path takes planes over the north and west of the capital, causing significant noise pollution both day and night.

>Protestors are attaching the name of Belgium’s federal mobility minister, Jean-Luc Crucke (Les Engagés), to the flight path in an effort to prompt political action.

>“We don’t want to go out any more. At night, we can’t sleep properly,” one protestor told RTBF. “The noise is terrible. We can’t talk outside, or even inside.”

>The protest was made up mostly of residents from the affected municipalities of Evere, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Schaerbeek, Jette and Molenbeek, and was organised by the Free Air 4 Brussels association.

>“It’s a new route,” said Vincent Vanwijnsberghe, chair of Free Air 4 Brussels. “It was introduced by the minister in April 2025 as a trial. More than a year later, the route is still in place. Our lives have quite simply become a living hell.”

>"Europe issues guidelines to determine the distribution of aircraft based on population density. These aren’t being respected, and that’s purely down to money. It’s scandalous.”

>The City of Brussels has set up a pest control task force and tripled the budget for rat control efforts, Philippe Close, Mayor of the City of Brussels has announced after videos emerged showing a rat infestation in the pedestrian precinct in the city centre. “Since monitoring began in February, more than a thousand rats have been caught”, the mayor told reporters.

>Dozens of African students have been left in the lurch following the bankruptcy and closure of a private IT school in the European Quarter in Brussels.

>Ecole-IT on Rue du Trône offered private bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in computer science, both in Brussels and at three campuses in France, for a significantly higher cost than a standard university or college.

>These degrees - which come at the cost of €7,900 per academic year of study - were never recognised in Belgium, according to an investigation by French-language news outlet RTBF.

>The school had already drawn the attention of Belgium’s immigration office last year when, citing concerns that the school would facilitate illegal migration, it refused to grant new visas to its students.

>About 500 residents of the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles have held a protest against the rise of drugs-related violence in the neighbourhhood, calling on authorities to prioritise prevention over repression.

>“Organised crime has created a hellish machine in our neighbourhoods, fuelled by drug trafficking,” said Timothy Eden, one of the organisers.

>“This machine is engulfing our streets, our parks, our playgrounds, but also our shops and restaurants. We feel abandoned by our elected representatives, who seem to be concerned only with political manoeuvring.”

>“In terms of violence, it has never been as bad as it is now. We need more solidarity between the 19 municipalities. In Uccle, the arrival of a reception centre for asylum-seekers caused a huge scandal. But it cannot always be the same municipalities that organise the reception.”

>There were moments of fear last night in Brussels , where an explosion occurred around 3:45 a.m. in front of a house on Rue Père Damien in Evere . A spokesperson for the Brussels fire brigade confirmed the incident to the Belga agency.

Another explosion during the night at a house in Brussels! There is at least one every week now!

This is by no means a minor incident we are talking about intimidation bombings by criminal gangs involved in the drug war!

Again, another utterly shameful story of corruption! And what’s the solution? Find more money, 13 million to finish the project... with a petition! Shouldn’t they open an investigation? What about the 30 million already spent on a flat concrete square, and the project is still incomplete!

The City of Brussels is stepping up the fight against fly-tipping by doubling various fines for nuisance offences from 1 August.

Authorities will also expand the options for free bulky waste collection from this autumn.

Just for your information the current mayor of Brussels and his predecessor are both executives at Vivaqua. The saga of extreme corruption and conflicts of interest at this company continues, they truly have no shame!

>The American embassy’s celebration of the country’s independence anniversary on 28 June will mean up to 11 days of identity checks in and around Cinquantenaire Park.

>The City of Brussels has issued a police order granting the US embassy permission to secure a closed perimeter around the park from 8.00 on 21 June to 22.00 on 2 July, Bruzz reports.

>The security checks will take place in the park itself “and at all entrances and exits to the area where the activities are taking place”, according to the police order.
