Surgical tech to forensic pathologist assist. Is it possible?
I am a newly grad surgical tech that has been working in surgery coming up to one year. My problem with this field is the surgeons giving me PTSD from my previous military service. I’m good as a CST, enough to get selected to be put on a CVOR team for my hospital.
The reason for this post is because of my PTSD due to prior military service. I can say the job as a CST I’m decent at for only being in the OR alone since February of this year, which is why I want to try FPA. I’ve been talking to people that know others that have gone down a autopsy tech path and they say the biggest problem for some is the fact that some cases deal with underage individuals sometimes. I think I’ll be ok under those circumstances as long as I’m not getting screamed at because I can not put a 7-0 suture on my Castro (cst talk)
So back to my main question. Has anyone transitioned from CST to FPA? Is it possible? What is the call like? What’s the training? How does being a CST help with becoming a FPA
