I found a bunch of artwork for sale at Dollarama featuring public domain characters

I think this is the first time I've encountered a mass produced use of public domain characters in the wild by a company that didn't originally own the characters.

Although I didn't get a picture of it, I later noticed a painting of Popeye also for sale on the shelf in this style, but the basis of the painting was clearly lifted from the Sony animation test for the cancelled Popeye movie, with a painting filter over it. Which leads me to believe that presumably all of these "paintings" are also pulled from existing renders of these characters which are presumably still under copyright.

Thought this sub might find it interesting to see.
