TIL There’s Filipino abacá in tea bags and Japanese yen notes
The Philippines supplies roughly 85% of the worlds largest abacá. It’s processed into specialty paper: tea bags, coffee bags, cigarette paper and currency paper.
Philippine peso notes are roughly 20% abacá.
Japanese yen notes use abacá fiber blended with mitsumata bark.
