I’m 19 and I’m trying to make my first psychological horror short film — NEVER ALONE
Hi everyone! My name is Nomari Nelson. I’m 19, from South East London, and I’m an actor, writer and emerging filmmaker.
I’m currently working on my first psychological horror short film, NEVER ALONE, and I wanted to start sharing the journey here as I take the film from script to screen.
Never Alone follows Jason, a young man struggling with grief and becoming increasingly isolated from the people around him. After an argument with his sister Crystal, Jason is left alone in the house. As the night progresses, he begins hearing things he can't explain, forcing him to question whether he's really as alone as he thinks.
Someone, or something, is downstairs.
I’ve always loved horror, especially films that build fear through tension, suspense and atmosphere. With Never Alone, I want those quiet moments to make you question what might be behind a door or just outside the frame, rather than relying entirely on jump scares. That's a huge part of the type of filmmaker I want to become.
So far, I’ve written the screenplay, created the pitch deck and started building NOMZ Studios, which I hope to grow into my own production company. I’m now working towards a £6,000 production budget and have launched a Crowdfunder to help bring NEVER ALONE to life.
I’m also looking for producers, collaborators, locations and crew who could potentially help bring the film to the screen.
One of the biggest reasons I want to create my own work is because I know how difficult it can be for young creatives to get opportunities in this industry. Long term, I want NOMZ Studios to create films while also giving other emerging creatives opportunities to work, learn and build their experience.
I’m going to keep sharing the process as it happens, the funding, finding a producer, building the crew, locations, pre-production and hopefully eventually being on set making the film.
If you’re a filmmaker, producer, actor or just someone who loves horror, I’d love to connect and hear any advice you have for someone making their first independent short.
If anyone would like to support the project, my Crowdfunder is linked on my Reddit profile. Even sharing the project would mean a lot.
Thanks for reading. This is the beginning of NEVER ALONE. 🎬
