Would it be worth learning how to use my Canon EOS RebelXS 35-80mm over just using my smartphone?

I've had the camera for over a decade and I got it for free from someone who was moving.

I know it takes special batteries and film. I think it could be a fun side hobby but I wanted to know if anybody had any experience with this specific camera!

It came with the bag, strap, filter, manual, lens tissue, a weird white squirt bottle, and a air brush. It also came with the Dealer Record of Canon Purchase but it wasn't filled out LOL.

One of my old buddies said that it's so that the engine doesn't rust or get stuck. He said to especially do it with Subaru's and that even the company tells you to do it.
