I need help finding this. I read this a few weeks ago. I'll try to recall the plot as cleanly as I can so please stick around because you might know about it.
Two half brothers, one favoured by the father and the other not so much, have always been close since they were kids. The older brother is outgoing, positive, a legitimate son, and the heir to their household. The younger brother is shy, an illegitimate son, with people against him. This naturally split people in the household into factions, one with the older brother, and one with the younger.
When the younger brother had a marriage arranged for him so he'd have more power (I think the fiance's name is hyouka? Hyoua? Hyoka?), the older brother overheard his own faction plotting to kill his younger brother's fiancee. When it all came down to it, he realized that with him alive, his younger brother will NEVER be safe and his own mother will always try to kill his younger brother and his fiancee as long as he lives. So instead of warning her, he takes the drink instead and dies.
The younger brother freaks the fuck out and consults a witch doctor to try to revive his older brother, making him a jiangshi or a chinese jumping vampire-zombie thing. I clearly remember the rest but I feel like I'd be spoiling for potential readers.
