Carpet removal + asbestos tile
We recently moved into a 1958 house and there was new carpet down. We decided to switch to LVP and the installers came over and quickly ripped up the carpet in the basement. They used tools to help get up the carpet tacks around the perimeter of the room. I came in and was Appalled when the installers said they thought asbestos tile. The perimeter was full of crumbly tile, screws, and dirt/ carpet tacks. I immediately stopped them and turned my HVAC off. We had to wait about a week, but scheduled an abatement company who came and did a full
Professional abatement with negative pressure, poly drapes, sealed everything off, hepa scrubbers and wet removal methods. They used a solvent (citrus, odorless) to get the black mastic up. We are currently ventilating with lots of fans, air purifiers and windows open.
I keep replaying the carpet guys tearing up the carpet and crumbled asbestos tile being everywhere. I was down there breathing it in. How concerned should we be? We have 3 small kids
