Recommendations for a Canadian PayFac or embedded payments provider?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for a Canada-based PayFac or embedded payments provider. The setup would let us accept card payments for local businesses through our own platform and pay them out to their bank accounts in CAD. Ideally the provider offers merchant onboarding, a good API, competitive pricing and fast payouts.

I'd also like to know whether the same provider could support US and international businesses later, or whether people usually end up using a separate provider for each region. If you've worked with something like this, which providers would you suggest, and how was your experience with them? What are fees like generally?

Thanks!

Alternatives to Stripe with lower fees and wider country coverage, same kind of API integration?

Hi all,

I've been integrating Stripe (API keys, hosted Checkout, webhooks) and the developer experience is great, but two things keep coming up:

  1. Fees - 2.9% + 30¢ in the US adds up fast on low-ticket or high-volume sales.
  2. Coverage - Stripe accounts aren't available (or are invite-only) in India, most of Africa, most of Latin America outside Mexico/Brazil, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines and most of the Middle East outside the UAE.

I'm looking for other processors that work the same way so the integration pattern carries over:

  • You sign up directly with the provider and get your own API keys
  • Hosted checkout page or hosted payment form, so card data never touches your own server/site
  • Webhooks for succeeded / failed / refunded, with signature verification
  • Proper sandbox with test cards
  • Payouts straight to your own bank account
  • Solid docs and a stable API

For anyone who has actually used something like this:

  • Which providers fit that list, and in which country?
  • What were the real all-in fees - percentage, fixed fee, FX markup, payout fees, monthly minimums?
  • How was onboarding? Days to approval, documents required, how often do they review or freeze accounts?
  • Any gotchas with webhooks, refunds, disputes or payouts?
  • Which ones also offer local bank/wallet rails (Pix, UPI, SEPA, iDEAL, QRIS, mobile money) through the same API? Those tend to be far cheaper than cards.
  • Has anyone gone interchange-plus (Adyen, Checkout.com, Helcim, Stax, etc.) at small volume - was it really cheaper once minimums were counted?

Names I've only read about so far: Mollie and Adyen (EU), Razorpay and Cashfree (India), Paystack and Flutterwave (Africa), Mercado Pago, dLocal and EBANX (LatAm), Xendit and Opn (SE Asia), Tap, PayTabs and Moyasar (Middle East), Airwallex, Square, Braintree/PayPal. Which are good, which should I skip, and what am I missing?

"Don't bother with X" answers are as useful as recommendations. Please share in the comments and not in DMs so I can chat more about it and it can help someone in the future too.

Thanks!!!
