Here's a random one...

If you're from the UK, you're probably familiar with Dead Mans Fingers. Which to me, is the classic easy drinker-cheap enough, but better than CapMorgs. If it's on offer I'll quite happily buy a bottle of the standard spiced rum in order to slow down on my more expensive samples.

So imagine my surprise, when I find this on Amazon for a measly £24!

It's not listed on their official website, so I presume it's a rum that they no longer produce. At that price point the only comparison I have is Woods Navy Rum, which was surprisingly good. But I didn't have high hopes heading into this one. However...! For the price, actually very delicious.

I had no idea DMF even had samplings at this strength considering their usual market is between 32%-38%. At least you can actually call this one rum. On the nose there's no aggressive solvent bite. Almost butterscotch/caramel, with a hint of a spiced chocolate cake. Not much dissimilar to taste either.

What I could closest compare this to, is Dark Matter rum. Which if I'm being honest, I didn't enjoy all that much. Too spicy, too forceful, very Christmas cake in a glass and it wasn't quite for me. This is similar, but in a much more rounded way. Heavy on the spices- nutmeg, cinnamon etc, it warms your tongue but somehow the sweetness and the vanilla rounds the flavours off beautifully. Very easy to drink considering the ABV and overall, very impressed.

Worth a shot if you see it at a good price. It's no Hampden, but I'm glad I gave it a go!

Hello there...

Since starting my rum journey, I have heard much about the Kill Devil series and have been dying to try some.

I know deep down, that Jamaica is the homeplace of my favourite rums. I just love the funk, in a diabolical way.

Ordering this, I was nursing a chub awaiting it's arrival.

Distilled in February 2011, rumoured to be a Hampden bottling and 1 of 257. 60.1% ABV. This set me back £99 here in the UK...

But the liquid itself is phenomenal. Light gold in colour, all the tropical fruits, all the chemicals. Super funky but also oaky and smooth thanks to the aging.

One to try at some point in your life, if only they were cheaper! Love it.

Been wanting to try this bottle for a long time.

I'm deep into my rum journey now and the options are becoming more difficult to source, or generally, more expensive.

I adored the 1753, I would likely place it in my top 5 in an instant. At a delightful 60% this offering is no slouch.

If I had to be picky, I was disappointed in the initial nose, as it's far less funky than the 1753. The funk is definitely there, but not in a, smell from across the room kind of way that I loved.

However, it is beautifully smooth, more oaky, fruity notes of banana and pineapple. I'm even getting chocolate and something else I can't put my finger on.

Think - eating your favourite tropical fruit, next to a petrol/gas station, in the sunshine, with a cigar in your top pocket.

Absolutely sensational. Top 5 pick also.
