Figured I'd take one from log to 'near' spoon

Rather than axe out a bunch of blanks for tge week, I decided to take one from log to near complete. This billet had gotten pretty moldy at the bottom of my bin so I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. Unknown, what's under the yuck? Lol

Sugar maple eater roughed out.

Another hour, another spoon blank carved to near finished. Sugar Maple eating spoon going to the drying pile for a few days. Really hoping the knot on the back rim of the bowl doesn't cause me drying issues. Lol

Sugar Maple eating spoon.

I really love the look of stick type handles and curvy transitions. Sugar maple its some hard stuff so keeping it green is paramount, as is getting it to 95% before drying. But it takes a burnishing so well.

Neat little Max from Woodsmans Finest inspired 'sidewinder' style spoon i roughed out yesterday. Its slightly figured Sugar Maple that came down in a tornado last September. Its an interesting challenge with all the grain angles.
