New Garand Owner

I have a feeling I will be coming back with more questions later. I just picked up my expert grade reclaimed Garand today. In the booklet that comes from it says not to use it until disassembled and cleaned. The problem is… I can’t disassemble it. I might not be strong enough but as I went to look stuff up I heard about bedding and how that can seal the wood to the receiver. So now I’m wondering if I should even take it apart or if I should just inspect it the best I can with it all out together. Is it even possible to oil it up properly without taking it apart?

Additionally the wood is a little rough in some places. So anyone with recommendations to get a good finish on the wood is something I’d very much appreciate.

My last question is about the sight adjustment gear thing. It feels very rough and even time I turn it I’m worried about stripping the gears or whatever. Is there a way to lubricate that or is it working as intended?

308 Garand

So, I recently acquired one of the CMP Garands in 308. I don’t have any experience with any caliber bigger than 556. Rather than spending a bunch of money on this and trying stuff out I figure I’d ask around and see if anyone knew.

I know that 308 stuff can usually fits 762, but will 762 fit in the clip properly? Also do I need to get different clips to fit 308 as opposed to the usual 3006 which the clips were designed for?
