Fresh Grad Dilemma: Big 4 Shared Services (AML/KYC) vs. Major Fast Food Giant (Employee Expense Accountant)? Help me choose!
Hi guys! BS Management Accounting fresh grad here facing a crossroads. Need honest insights, especially from those in finance, audit, or WFH/freelance setups.
My main goal for the next 2–3 years is to build a solid CV that will help me land a permanent Work From Home (WFH) setup (ideally working for foreign clients/offshore companies). Down the line (around 5 years from now), plan ko rin mag-bridging program for BSA and take the CPALE, pero priority ko muna ngayon mapaganda ang career trajectory ko.
Here are my two options:
Option A: Big 4 Shared Services
Role: AML / KYC Analyst
Pros: Big 4 name sa resume, higher base pay offer, tapos may friends din akong papasok doon.
Cons: Medyo malayo sa Management Accounting degree ko. Sobrang niche ba ng AML/KYC? Baka mahirapan ako mag-transition pabalik sa general accounting/bookkeeping or audit kung gustuhin ko man later on?
Option B: The Huge Local Fast Food Conglomerate
Role: Accountant (Employee Expenses)
Pros: Direct, hands-on general accounting experience — handling expense verification, cash advances, liquidations, GL entries, and audit compliance. Hybrid set-up din and solid benefits.
Cons: Mas mababa ang salary offer compared to Option A. Plus, I’ll be living away from my family for the first time without my friends around, so medyo nakakatakot mag-solo shift.
Questions:
In terms of marketability for future WFH / remote jobs (especially for US/AU offshore firms), alin ang mas in demand: Big 4 AML/KYC Compliance or Core Corporate Expense/GL Accounting?
Bumabawi ba talaga ang Big 4 brand name kahit hindi core accounting yung role?
Mahirap ba mag-shift pabalik sa traditional accounting / external audit if AML/KYC ang naging first job ko?
Pasensya na sa mahabang post. Any thoughts, advice, or career experiences are super appreciated. Thank you!
