Non-linear play recommendations?

I've been thinking recently about non-linear stories and I've realized I haven't read many plays that fit that bill yet. I'm very interested in the ways different playwrights choose to communicate those stories to the reader/eventual audience and would love to hear anybody's recommendations. Happy to hear about stuff on NPX as well!

Thanks!

Writing a character description for a male part who is not to be played by a man

Hi! I’m holding auditions for a show where the main male lead is to be played by a woman (or someone who is not male identifying) and I’m trying to find the best way to word it for the audition notice. The character is still a man and should be played as a man, but we are looking for a non-male identifying actor for it, a similar situation to Edwin Drood. Every time I try to write it down it turns into word salad, like this haha!

For context, this part is in an adaptation of a relatively well-known public domain novel. There are some scholars who believe that the novel itself was queer-coded, so I want to reflect that through casting. The choice won't cause any licensing issues. This theater company does lots of gender neutral casting (I’m a woman who has pretty much exclusively played men with them), so this isn’t necessarily out of the ordinary, it’s just hasn't been specifically asked for before. Just wondering if anyone has ideas for a more succinct or clear way to word it in the audition notice. Thanks!
