What are the *Functional* Limits of the Human Body?

Surviving in the ZA is going to be some tough work; it's going to take a lot of effort and energy in order to sustain yourself and your community.

Everyone knows that you have 3 days w/o water, 3 weeks w/o food, 3 months w/o shelter and yada yada. But that's the time limit you have before you die.

How far you do think you can last without these crucial necessities? Now how long do you think you can last without one of these essentials without being completely useless?

Yeah, you may be able to survive up to 3 days without water, but you'll be completely dehydrated and you won't have any energy to try and survive. You may be alive, but not as all useful enough to make smart decisions & not be a detriment to yourself and everyone around you. Not to mention you have the stress of zombies around you.

I've heard that some people can be somewhat functional by the end of the first day water-fast, but any more they felt like they couldn't do anything. I feel like food-fasters would fair a bit better as there are accounts of people not eating for a week or two (but still having salts & water).

What do you think?

Gun Training in the Civilian Population

How would existing gun training carry over into the ZA? As everyone knows, we got a ton of bullets & guns, but a lot of people cite that not everyone is adept at using it (which is true).

Some of the modern day training instruct to shoot at center mass. With "infected" zombies its fine, with Romero, it may be a bit tougher to train to just hit headshots. That being said, rather start off the soldier with some training than none at all.

How many people who own guns know how to use them? I wouldn't be surprised if the rural folks know how to hit precision shots if they are hunters or the like. Probably better at security, picking off lone zombies.

I do know some people prefer to train to CQB too, but not sure how useful that'll be. Maybe it's better for those guys to handle hordes? They probably got skills to quickly reload and handle multiple targets.

How viable is boiling water as a primary plan? If every family does it, wouldn't the forests vanish?

Total ZA kicks in and you successfully survive the couple of weeks/months.

Is boiling the best method of purification? It's probably the safest way to get rid of microbes to kill them off after filtering the water, but with such water concerns, we're going to need a lot of wood. I recall reading the SHTF Bosnia writing, and remember reading how the author would need to tear up houses to use their wood for fuel (for heating as well).

Boiling makes smoke and gives away your location as well... maybe its better to use bleach to kill microbes? You can probably make bleach out of salt water using electricity as well. Better than alerting zombies if they can smell and other survivors

Bait the Bite just like a Dog Attack?

The human jaw is capable of hurting the shit out of you if they get a good chomp. So infected or immune or whatever, it's going to hurt.

Against dog attacks, you should wrap your forearm with a thick cloth and put it close to the aggressive dog. If they leap and bite, at least it's your arm and it's somewhat padded. Rather that than a leg or raw skin. A dog usually bite with their lives once they clamp their jaws. You may be able to get help with someone else intervening or hold tight until the dog decides to let go.

How effective would this protocol be vs a human? If you're immune I guess it's a better strategy to bait the zombie over and know what theyre targeting so you can beat their predictability. Maybe it's too risky and it's better to just go with another gameplay, attack the legs or something. How would you approach that?

BAM - The Early ZA is here. How are you, as "Shane", going to try to work with the "Rick"s in your community??

Let me evaluate:

The ZA is here, and you got together a little community of the survivors. You're able to survive a bit, but we're trying to plan something out for more long-term survival.

Shane really understood how the ZA was going to end up being - the old world would be gone, and everyone needed to adapt to how things will be in the new world. Rick didn't believe him, but after the long passage of time, he low key ended up just like Shane's mentality.

Maybe people just think it's going to be a contained in your country/flee to a safer location (28 Years Later) scenario instead of a TLOU/TWD, the whole world is burning up and we need to rebuild scenario.

How would you "convince" those who think things can be back to normal? Or maybe you decide to leave the community for those more like minded? Or you try to help out and play along until reality sets in?

How would the Islanders of Hawaii fare in the ZA and possibly beyond?

They have a lot of natural disasters but...

They are cut off from the world! Meaning either it is completely overrun and the survivors lose, or all the zombies die and the survivors get to work on thriving.

The old natives used to live there for years before being overthrown, so it's possible! But it's been more of a tourist town, so not sure if it's going to be as good.

And let's assume the infected start in some percentage of the population, just like TLOU movie series, where people eat bread so the infection can start there.

Zombies - Going for the Kill vs Bite to Just Infect Victims

Some media are different on how they portray different zombies (or infected).

If zombies target humans & crave for brains, it would make sense for them to go for the kill and dig deep into the victim to reach the juicy good parts...

But in the case in something like the Rage Virus, it makes more sense for zombies to finish the kill as well, they want to kill people in their never-ending rage.

When would it make sense for zombies to just bite once and move on?? Are animals even intelligent enough to know when to stop injuring the victim so they can fully transform? I guess maybe viruses or certain pathogens just want to bite and move on like rabies where they aren't looking for the kill but to just be aggressive, get maybe a bite or two, slobber all over the wound, run away & move on?

Morse Code - When is it going to be useful??

Just found myself trying to self-teach myself morse code recently, but now I want some motivation...

In a world with GMRS & Ham Radio, when is Morse Code's time to shine?? Not all systems are going to be completely shut down when SHTF.

Are we going to wait until long, long distance simple radio to get set up before we start using morse code to talk to different communities? Or is it a way for two smaller groups to communicate during scouting runs or what do you think?
