Hello!
I have been thinking about the "sphere" effect on magic and also for homebrew items. If a spell has a sphere and 10m range, I've interpreted it as that it goes 10m in all directions (i.e. the radius is 10m, not the diameter of the effect). When I mapped this on a grid map I've come to the conclusion that it could make the effect area a square.
If you count it as all the squares that you can move to with a 10m movement that would make it a square. However it feels like a sphere should be... spherical? So I thought that you could also count 10m in all cardinal directions and then make a circle connecting those 4 points. But this would be a bit complicated to do during combat and it would also beg the question what happens with squares on the grid map that is partially included in the sphere
I am very confused about this (as you can probably tell). I have tried to draw what I mean in the picture, where the X is where the spell is being used, the dots are all the squares to which you could move if you could move 10m and the crudely drawn circle is the effect area if it was a circle drawn from connecting 10m out from all the cardinal directions.
How have you interpreted the sphere?
