My friend was involved in an accident while on vacation in Indonesia, and the culprit fled.[Germany/Switzerland]
In 2025, my friend(32F) traveled to Indonesia with her nephew(30M) as tourists. She is from Belarus, and he is from Germany. One day, the nephew rented a scooter to get around the island, and they were riding together from time to time until they got into an accident.
The circumstances of the accident are as follows: As it turned out, the nephew was drunk; he was exceeding the speed limit (my friend asked him to slow down and stop, but he ignored her) and had no experience driving in Indonesia(Where traffic drives on the left). At one of the intersections, he tried to drive through a red!!! traffic light signal and collided with a local resident on a scooter. The impact sent my friend flying forward and she flew several meters before hitting the ground face‑first, which caused her to break numerous facial bones, her jaw, and her teeth (by a miracle, she didn’t break her neck). A local resident broke his leg, while the nephew was completely unharmed. All the injured were taken to the hospital, and the nephew went to the police. My friend was in a very serious condition and underwent several very painful surgeries (she’s still undergoing them); her wounds are still making themselves felt to this day, and the psychological damage has been colossal — she’s suffering so bad because of it.
I don’t know the circumstances of the nephew’s conversation with the police, but all we got was a police report about the incident, which simply described the circumstances of it — and that’s all! He wasn’t even charged with running a red light and creating an dangerous situation!(I think it’s because he simply gave them money so he wouldn’t end up behind bars).
While my friend was in the hospital, he went to the police station every day and did something there, as he told himself, he was changing the case for the new police report, where her trauma wasn't related to accident, but rather he unintentionally pushed her from the slope. In the end, my sister spent about a month in the hospital, and he left, promising that he would send money for the treatment.
A year later, my friend, after returning home, is still undergoing facial reconstruction surgery; this has caused enormous damage to her psyche, and I can’t stand seeing how this nephew posts reels on Instagram about how he’s having fun while she’s suffering and trying to live. The amounts the nephew transferred over the whole year amounted to about $400(she lost at least a 20k$ at this time), but the last transfer was at the beginning of summer, and he hasn’t been in touch since.
I want this nephew to face at least some kind of punishment for his misdeed and to pay for her expenses. But all I know is his first name, last name, and his insurance number (he sent a screenshot of a letter from his insurance company), and that he is currently studying at one of the universities in Switzerland. Please tell me where I can turn for help in Germany or Switzerland, or what to pay attention to in this matter. Ultimately, she were left with huge financial debts, ruined health, and a police report that doesn’t even state that he is guilty (he ran a red light, I’m reminding you).
