Is "camper" used as a humorous term of address in American English
In Friends, Chandler says: "Hold on, camper, are you sure you've thought this thing through?"
I understand "hold on," but why does he call the other person camper?
Is camper a common humorous term of address, similar to "buddy," "pal," or "kid"? Or is there some cultural reference or joke I'm missing?
I searched online but couldn't find any discussions about this particular usage.
