The GOP’s Culture-War Hail Mary

The GOP’s Culture-War Hail Mary

R3 Neutral: Struggling with voters on issues they were historically strong on - the economy, immigration enforcement - the article argues that the GOP is "all in on trans". Per the article, it is unclear if Democrats have found a viable counter to the attacks. The article concludes that the GOP hopes the issue will energize their base while depressing turnout among Democrat voters dissatisfied with candidates views on the subject

How would you improve Representative democracy?

First, I want to ensure that I'm clear on my definitions, since a small subset of the people here have shown some.... interesting interpretations of the following.

To put it simply, in a representative democracy, citizens cast votes on their leaders, from the most local level to the highest level of government. Usually there are laws and other governing documents that explicitly allocate power among the various office holders

How and when elections are conducted, who is eligible to vote and hold office, what level of authority they hold - all these vary across nations, and even within them.

There are two questions, one relatively easy, one less so:

* How would you improve Representative Democracy in the system your community currently follows

* How would you improve *the concept of Representative Democracy itself*? I am assuming that "improve" in this case is not "make me God Emperor", but what the hell - if you think the entire concept should be replaced, what is your alternative and how are you avoiding the obvious shortcomings?

Trump targets El-Sayed, suggests voter irregularities after Michigan primary

Resubmitting to comply with Rule 3 and to remove Truth Social link

Unbiased summary: After Abdul El-Sayed's victory in the Michigan Senate primary, President Trump raised allegations of voter fraud:

>Wayne County (Detroit) in Michigan is one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States, if not the World,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday. “It is strictly Third World! Miracles happen in Wayne County, including more votes being cast than there are voters, by a lot.

Trump did not supply evidence, similar to other claims of election fraud in the past

Biased summary: Trump once again working hard to unify Democrats. Progressives and moderates may differ on many subjects, but one of the ones they agree on is that Donald Trump is invariably full of [language that triggers filters] when he whines about election results.

What will the immigration policy for the next Democratic Administration be?

An unprecedented surge of border crossing in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta overwhelmed the tiny town and has led to a backlash against the current Spanish PM, who is apparently pro-Immigration by European standards.

The cause of the spike is being partially blamed on the Moroccan government, but also apparently misinformation spread via social media.

If a Democrat takes office on January 21, 2029, they will inherit the policies of the Trump Administration, which are wildely loathed by the Democratic base and whose heavy handed and indiscriminate enforcement has led to a general unpopularity in the United States in general

Nonetheless - and presumably as designed - those policies have deterred border crossing during the Trump Administration.

How will the next Democratic Administration, whether in 2029 or the future, balance the excesses of the Trump Administration without risking a border surge similar to what caused backlash during the Biden Administration?
