The Celtic Summer Solstice

The Celtic Summer Solstice

Last year, Celtic Source did a 5 part video series about the Summer Solstice, and if you missed it, I highly recommend you check it out.

Per the 1st video description: "Why is there no known Celtic myth for the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year? Unlike Samhain, Imbolc, and Calan Mai, midsummer seems absent from ancient tales. But perhaps its myth was never lost, just hidden in the gestures and customs passed down through generations."

He lays out what we do know, what we don't, and how he's done some comparative mythology to sketch out a plausible myth. Even if you prefer to stick to the more definitively preserved celebrations, I think it's an excellent example of the process and level of work involved in filling out missing pieces of a practice.

To save my sanity, and perhaps yours, let's re-institute this fine tradition. Going forward, I will redirect all holiday related posts to the current, relevant thread.

As always: searching this sub will bring you many fine ideas from previous years.

Links I have on hand:
https://www.patheos.com/blogs/johnbeckett/2015/04/beltane-a-solitary-ritual.html
https://www.patheos.com/blogs/johnbeckett/2014/10/samhain-a-solitary-ritual.html

This year we've got the full moon all up in this as well.

And remember, if you're asking for advice, giving us your general location under the lovely Pagan umbrella will help us, help you.

Going forward, all posts asking if a deity is calling you will be removed and you'll be redirected to the wiki, bringing this sub in line with r/paganism so that it doesn't hurt my head as much.

Basic getting started posts will also be redirected similarly. If by chance you have a specific need for resources that were not met there, by all means, ask away.

Suggestions for additions to the wiki are welcome.

ETA: I probably should have posted this as from the mod team but I didn't. I am entirely too lazy to repost it. So hi, it's me. Sup.
