Do you like where you work?

What’s up grease monkeys

I’m looking for stories/ input from the guys that actually like their shops or companies. Bonus points if you name names. Feel like we always hear about the dogshit but never the places that are actually worth working at.

Breaking out of mid tier

I’m almost a year and a half in as a technician, came in with no experience cleaning floors and pumping gas. Have managed to work my way into the shop and gotten a good amount of training in the last year too.

My issue is I feel like I’m in limbo. I can do all the quick/ lube tech bullshit easily, and I have gotten some bigger jobs over time. But I feel like my progress has slowed. I’m not getting access to the check engine lights/ diag stuff unless there is a big overflow of that work, and most other “bigger” jobs don’t seem to come around too often.

What should I do? I guess I’m in a solid place for now, waiting until I have around 2-3 years of experience before getting another job at the next rung of the ladder. But I hate feeling like I’m not learning as much as I was.

Broke a bolt inside a caliper. Is it salvageable?

Doing a pad change on a meritor caliper, and unfortunately the hold down bar bolt snapped inside of the caliper. At this point I will likely need to drill out the hole and tap it. Is this okay to do or will the truck blow up and hit a bus full of nuns?
