Career Options

Hi all,
I’ve been thinking for a while about moving away from teaching. I’m 23F and, honestly, I love the actual teaching side of things — working with students, helping them, planning lessons, etc. It’s more the poor management, hierarchy, politics and whole interview/job situation that has really started to put me off the profession.

After not getting my job back last year, I’ve applied for a few different teaching positions this year. I feel like I’ve interviewed well but haven’t received any offers, and at this stage I’m starting to wonder if it’s a sign that I should move on rather than keep putting myself through it.

I’ve always liked the idea of becoming a lecturer, but I don’t really want to commit to a Masters/postgrad at the moment. I also don’t want to go back to college to retrain for another career just yet, mainly because of the cost. I know corporate training is an option but I haven’t found any current jobs online that I’d be interested in, in that regard.

For anyone who has left teaching, what careers did you move into? Were there any jobs/sectors that you found particularly suited your teaching skills and degree?

Also any FinTech jobs that people would recommend that need little training would be really helpful!

I’d really appreciate hearing about people’s experiences and any recommendations for careers I could look into without needing to go back to college straight away!

Interview for sub position

Hi,
I’m interviewing for a substitute position with an ETB school.

Will this interview be different to a position for fixed term etc.?

What sort of questions will be asked?

Will these questions be more leaned towards taking over from original class teacher?

Just need some advice!!

TIA

Evra patch…

Hi everyone,
I recently made a post about the Evra patch and the skin rashes I’ve been getting.

I’ve been using the Evra patch for years and have never had any issues with it. It’s honestly the easiest and most effective form of contraception for me. However, ever since I came home from holidays (around the time of the heatwave in Ireland), I’ve been getting really bad rashes wherever I apply the patch. It doesn’t matter which site I use—I always rotate the application site and apply it to clean, dry skin.

I went to my GP because I wanted to see if there was any way I could stay on the patch. He prescribed Cortopin cream and antihistamines, but after a week there’s been no improvement. Every patch causes the same reaction, and I’m now left with what look like burn marks on my legs and back where previous patches were.

I know the likely answer is that I’ll have to switch to another form of contraception, but I’m wondering if anyone has had this happen after years of using the patch without problems? Were you able to stop the reactions somehow, or did you have to change contraception altogether?

The only thing that’s changed recently is that I got a bad insect bite while on holiday and had to get a cortisone injection. I don’t know if that’s just a coincidence, but it’s literally the only thing I can think of that might have triggered this.

I’d really appreciate hearing if anyone has had a similar experience.

Contraception help please!

Hi,
I was on microlite pill from 2021-2024. This made me absolutely psycho, lows were extremely low and highs were just meh… I didn’t mind taking it every day and felt I could plan my periods. I did have some irregular bleeding but didn’t take much notice.

I change to the Evra patch to help me stop being psycho. Which has worked up until now… it has been causing the patch area to be itchy and red, one side still has not healed as if I got burned from the adhesive.

I’m looking to change my method but would much rather be able to either stop my periods altogether or be able to plan them definitely.

I’ve read so many articles about combined pills or mini pills leading to cancer. I’ve wanted to try the implant but realised I won’t be able to plan my periods.

What’s the best course of action, stay on the patch and try see if the irritation subsides or try a different pill etc?
