Not sure if I should rehome or keep trying

My two dogs have had a couple of fights. Today was the worst and ended in a vet visit and a hospital visit to get wounds cleaned. Everyone is home now but shaken up.

Previous fights were typical resource guarding (2 fights). Our dog B getting into E’s crate or B snapping at something and E snapping at her. But today was different. We had given them both treats across the yard. I took B’s away to go inside and when my husband tried to take E’s away, E ran across the yard and attacked B.

E has had a history of resource guarding me, to the point where we can’t have other dogs visit the house or go to other dog houses. However he does well at the dog park when I’m not there and does well at his boarding.

Outside of these three incidents B & E are best friends. They like to sleep in the same bed. E will submit to B when the play flight. E will even try to put his toys in B’s mouth to get her to play with him.

E doesn’t give any warnings before he attacks, it feels impossible to train. We want to give him the best shot. But if he’s sweet and cuddly 99% of the time I’m worried about the other 1% where someone has to go to the vet/hospital.

Euthanasia isn’t an option, but shelters won’t take him with his history. What should we do?
