Career mega thread

Nine questions in the career megathread. I noticed the last reply was two weeks ago, and before that, four. I’m guessing people posted there to get some sort of help, so I figured I’d mention it.

@mods or anyone. Appreciate it!

Projects/Labs to Bridge Experience Gaps

Wondering, has anyone created some type of project or projects, included it on their resume and/or featured it on their LinkedIn or a separate website and actually landed a job from that?

I’m considering doing this since I continue to see the same experience gaps across job postings, but I already conceptually know how the said requirement works, I just…don’t have hands-on work experience with it.

I’m in GRC, so something like an audit or regulatory framework/compliance related, maybe even some ITGC/ITAC domains (terms for the GRC people)

But even if it wasn’t in my industry, in general, has anyone done some type of simulated project or created a home lab to showcase hands-on application of a domain they lacked experience in?

Would be great to hear from anyone or knows anyone that actually landed the job despite the knowledge/experience gap.

Or..maybe it’s not even worth it? Open to hearing thoughts on that as well.

Any other tips/advice related to that would be great too.
