After many years at sea, progressing from Deck Cadet to Chief Officer and eventually to Master, I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with the everyday operational side of life onboard.
One problem I kept experiencing was how much information ends up scattered everywhere.
Notes, paper sheets, stickers, checklists, emails, reminders — and quite a lot of things simply kept in your head because you don’t want to forget them.
So I started building a small tool for myself.
That project became MARION — Marine Operations Platform.
The idea is simple: reduce unnecessary paperwork and scattered information and bring everyday operational tasks and crew information into one place.
What MARION can currently do

Plan and organize tasks
Track task status
Print daily task lists as PDF
Archive completed and cancelled tasks
Review previous tasks and operational history
👥 Crew Management
See who is currently onboard
Add crew members who are joining the vessel
Record crew members who have signed off
Plan crew changes by date
Automatically track crew status and rotation
The current version is a Windows/ PC application.
I’m currently working on the server-side architecture so that MARION can eventually work locally across multiple computers onboard the vessel through the ship’s internal network.
This is still an early-stage project. I started it for myself, but while developing it I realized that other seafarers might have the same problems.
So I’d really like to hear from people here who actually work onboard:

What would you change?
What other onboard task or operational problem would you like to see solved?
Any honest feedback is welcome. It will help shape the next features I build.
