Healthcare Professionals Who Switched to Informatics: Was It Worth It?
I’m a healthcare professional from India, currently working in Europe for the last 1 year after moving here because of my husband’s job. I had a 2-year career gap before getting this position, so I’m grateful to finally have a stable and decent-paying job again.
However, I’m starting to think long term. My job is rewarding but physically and mentally demanding, and I work in a small city with limited opportunities. My husband works in a bigger city, but there are almost no openings there for my position, so living together in the same place long term is becoming difficult.
I’ll be turning 29 soon and I’m considering doing a Master’s in Health Informatics to transition into a more flexible and less physically demanding healthcare career, ideally something hybrid/remote in the future.
I’d love advice from people who:
- transitioned from clinical roles into health informatics,
- work in healthcare IT/digital health,
- moved countries and rebuilt careers,
- or studied health informatics in Europe.
Questions:
Is Health Informatics a good transition for someone with a critical care background?
How difficult is it to get jobs after graduation in Europe?
Would this be a smart move financially and career-wise?
Are there other flexible healthcare careers I should consider instead?
Any honest advice or experiences would really help.
