Switching ERs

ER TO ER JOB

I need professional opinions here. I’m at a level 2 trauma er, been there for 2 years. Before that, I was a step down icu nurse. Therefore, I’m not the most experienced but I’m not a new grad. I hate the culture at my job, people are cliquey, same people get assigned the trauma bays and the more experience people take some people under their wing to teach if they like them. My hospital is primarily Hispanic and I’m a white girl. I notice if a new nurse or tech is Hispanic or another race they make friends quickly. I am very outgoing and never had a problem making friends until I came here. I have an interview for another level 2 trauma near my house <10 mins and they are comprehensive stroke center seeing around 80k patients a year while current job is a primary stroke center and around 55k patients a year. Only problem is my retirement match won’t be given unless I stay 3 years. I’m on year 2 here. Is it worth leaving about 10k match for possible better atmosphere? Or grass might not be greener and I give up my vestment. I have tried multiple times including myself in conversation, inviting people to my house parties. These girls just don’t like me. I came to er to learn how to be a trauma nurse and I just don’t feel like I’m meeting my career goals.

  1. is it worth it to leave by vestment and try another er?
  2. anyone else experience this clique vibe?
  3. is it just er culture ? ( step down wasn’t like this)

Er to ICU

Hi, so I have been a nurse for 3 years now. I did a year in step down then 2 years in er at level 2 trauma center. I really like ER but the people I work with are very jaded, negative. They are also trauma hogs, same people have trauma bay, and do not want to teach newer nurses. I am still learning A LOT, I’ll have icu patients on insulin drips, CVAS, Nstemis, sepsis etc. I have a hospital that’s 8 mins from me that I just applied for their ICU. Is it a smart move to leave er to become proficient in the icu and I could offer to float to er to keep my foot in door? My current hospital is 40 minutes away and I wouldn’t want to work in their icu for different reasons. My whole goal is to be a trauma nurse and do well with critical care patients. I want more ventilator experience, chest tube, etc. any advice ?

Making friends in Er ( RN)

I have been at same er for 2 years now, had a year of floor experience before I got here and still have no friends. Theres obviously cliques and some people that won’t like you, but in general not many people are friendly towards me. I’m always a hard worker and stay on top of my patient care. The weird thing is some of “ popular” nurses are the most lazy people. They will sit on their phones and not help when it gets busy. I’m a white girl and I do work primarily in a Hispanic community, so a lot of people who have that background seem to fit in easier. Half my co workers are white tho. Theres been other new nurses and techs that have been here less time than me and they get invited to social stuff. There’s also this “ trauma hog” idea here where same people get the trauma bay 1,2 and want to do all the critical work stemi, codes, etc and I’m eager to learn more. It feels like no one wants to take me in under their wing. My personality is bubbly, excited to come to work where a lot of my co workers are negative, complain together, swear a lot. Anyone else feel this way in the ER?
