Quick update on Immich Swipe (cleaning tool for Immich)

Hi everyone!

I posted about two month ago (see here) about Immich Swipe, an native android tool designed to quickly and very easily clean your Immich library.

I just wanted to say that it has evolved a lot since then, thanks to bug reports and feature requests made by the community 😊

It is now much more stable, and handles quite large libraries MUCH faster than before. Here's a quick list of what you can do with it :

  • KEEP / DELETE / ARCHIVE / LOCK / SKIP
  • Add / edit descriptions
  • Add to albums
  • Add to favourites
  • Rotate images (with optional sync to server)
  • Choose how media should be displayed, pinch-to-zoom on both photos and videos
  • Bulk actions for albums
  • ... and many more features

If you've got a huge library that clearly needs some cleaning, fell free to give it a shot! Whether it is bug reports, feature requests or just you being happy, I always like to get some feedback!

That being said, I'm now going to clean my own library... Originally that was the objective... 😅

Two database folders ?

Hi,

Just a quick question cause I just noticed I have 2 database folders in /var/lib/docker/immich/ :

ls command result

They both contain the same folder structure, but as you can see on the screenshot, it seems that database_2 hasn't been changed or been used since march, while database seems to be the "real" one. I don't really know where this second database is coming from (it has got to be me but I can't remember when, and why).
I just want to make sure that there is no risk in deleting that database_2 folder. What do you guys think about it?
(my environment variable is as follows : DB_DATA_LOCATION=/var/lib/docker/immich/database)

Thanks in advance!

A native Android app to clean up my Immich library (inspired by Sponge)

Hi everyone,

I've been using Immich for a while now, but I always struggled with "mostly trash" folders like WhatsApp Images, Screenshots or Screen recordings.

I never knew what to do with them:

  • Either I sync them and my Immich library gets cluttered with junk.
  • Or I don't sync them, and I have to manually pick and send the 5% of photos that are actually worth keeping.

I used to use an app called Sponge for my local files and I loved the "swipe-to-delete" workflow. I wanted the same thing but directly for my Immich instance, so I can just sync everything and clean the mess later while I'm on the bus or on my couch. It's also great for sorting through those massive old albums you never have the courage to open.

I saw a few similar projects (like the web-based Immich-Swipe), but I couldn't get them to work properly on my side. Since I've wanted to start a real Android project for a long time, I decided to build my own native Android app: Immich Swipe (yeah, the name is not very original... In my defense, those are literally the keywords I typed into Google to see if this already existed, so at least it's SEO friendly!)

It's pretty straightforward: you pick an album (like your WhatsApp folder or a huge old backup) and you swipe right to keep or left to delete. It makes the cleaning process way more "gamified" and less of a chore.

The app is open-source and I just released the first version. If you want to read more about the features or give it a try:

It’s still early stage, so let me know if you have any feedback or if it works for you!
