It's clear that he was going to lie to Peter until Peter saw his eyes. I wonder if he's afraid of feeling ashamed just like in the past when old thaddeus and Peter were angry at him for gambling or is there more to it?

Stupid theory that just came in my mind:

What if he wanted his siblings (thaddeus and Peter) recreated so they could accept him and his flaws since thaddeus and Peter didn't? We know he really loved his siblings to the point he wanted to give the money he got from gambling to them and the fact that Peter words got to him shows that he genuinely cares about his opinion.

If there are 6 clones in total, but the 6th one hasn't appeared then maybe he might join Peter (or die)
