My latest found which left me stunned

I focus on ambient music and would like to work more with this kind of sound.
My plan is to process field recordings in such a way that they evoke new places and interesting sounds, which I can then use as background or highlights in my tracks.

Two questions.

1. Can you recommend any devices that would help me achieve this?

I’ve already looked around a bit, and the Torso S-4 and Endorphine’s Evil Pet look pretty good for this purpose.

2. How do you approach creating these kinds of sounds?

My only synthesizer right now is the Solar 42N, and I’d like to stick with DAW-less production.
