Has anyone under 40 joined the Walnut Creek Area Neighbors and Newcomers Club or some other newcomers club? A lot of the activities make me think this is not for my age group (earlier 30s) lol. Looking for experiences with this group or similar. Alternatively other ways to find people in their 30s. I go to lifetime and see so many people my age but connecting at the gym can be difficult and awk when everyone is working out and rushing out after.

I’m new to recruiting, but I joined a small pre-series A cyber security company that needs more technical talent. Our founder feels strongly we remain in stealth so finding what I would already describe as unicorn candidates (super technically skilled, senior and high-agency, can thrive in high ambiguity, and willing to take the risk and lower comp associated with our stage) without posting our company name is challenging.

Anyone had to recruit under similar circumstances? Looking for ideas that will help me get more passive applications, especially as I’m doing a lot of manual searching and reaching out.

I have seen some great threads about newcomers- thank you all for the participation! My husband and I just bought a house in WC, but because we don’t have kids yet (just a dog), I’m pretty nervous about making friends and finding a place in this community.

Those of you who are pre-kids and 30s, how has it been? Any advice?

Things we do in our spare time: work out (have been going to hy5 in Lafayette but also considering big gyms in WC), hike, eat, play paddle/tennis, church.

Hey folks! I joined an early stage tech company as “VP of strat and ops” but I’m effectively chief of staff. Some people refer to me as such internally.

Some background: I have worked with this company as a contractor while employed elsewhere but parted ways due to high volatility. I have a commercial and product mgt background so I can help across several areas of the business. My biggest challenges are:

1. Getting the CEO to use systems/get info out of his brain and into places where others can see it.
2. Lack of role clarity. I expected role ambiguity and that’s fine, but with a COO and other highly autonomous hires (like our VP of product, head of GTM) and random other people the CEO will hire or bring on as contractors without notice, I’m struggling with how to carve a role out for myself here.

I have taken charge of some systems things on the product development side, customer acquisition (process, CRM hygiene, etc), onboarding/HR, but every time I produce something someone else creates their own version of it or redoes it. And it’s actually not personal…everyone seems to do it to one another.

Has anyone dealt with this kind of ambiguity and mess at a very early stage company? What did you do to create more clarity for yourself?
