Did The Dark Wizard deeply affect anyone else?
I checked out Dark Wizard after the boys recommended it and even going in knowing The Big Spoiler, I found it incredibly moving, disturbing, uplifting, infuriating, anxiety-inducing and sad.
I've seen a lot of other docs in this vein, but Dark Wizard was just so well-documented and produced, I couldn't stop thinking about Potter - but mostly about his friends - for days.
Also as a Gen-Xer who has had issues from time to time with the approach of younger whippersnappers, the rivalry with Alex Honnold also resonated with me. It's maddening when other (often younger) people come in and rip through some work or accomplishments that took me months or years to complete or attempt.
I was also blown away by what I consider another spoiler, >!that he was in a serious relationship with that executive from Patagonia when he died.!< I've heard and told the joke >!"What do you call a surfer/snowboarder/rock climber without a girlfriend? Homeless." many times, I was kind of amazed that it also extended to world class athletes to an extent (as it seems she purchased that plot of land near Yosemite for them to live on). !<
I lurked some discussions about The Dark Wizard in other communities but they're fixated on the well ackshually aspects of Potter's technical achievements so I wanted to post this in hopes that others would want to discuss the storytelling and emotional resonance of the show.
