Upwork is now desperately looking for freelancers to empty their bank account by buying more connects

Reach more clients the section, and now "Hiring Now" on the job postings. All these are traps for you: buy more connections so the CEO and workers at the company can have their 6-figure salary, while you as freelancers grid to find a meaningful project or win a shitty project with a bare minimum hourly rate. Don't fall for that trap. Upwork doesn't care about freelancers. If these freelancers' platform really did care about freelancers, then they could set a monopoly by making companies and clients reach out to their own platform rather than these clients going to a consulting company. These platforms are just there to empty your pocket. They are making money on someone who wants to earn money, not on someone who actually has the money.

Can I survive until my first salary with 25K HKD saving in Hong Kong?

I’ve received a job offer, but I only have 25K HKD in savings. Can I rent a room in shared apartment for a maximum of 3000 HKD? As for food, I don’t eat much, so I can manage on two cheap meals a day. I believe I can live like this until I receive my first salary which is one month after employment. My current situation is very difficult, I'm unemployed, so this is a real opportunity to relocate and secure a well-paying job. Or I'm gambling with my life and saving? I just hope be able to start my life there and continue my career, sick tired of Europe.

Why is Upwork not go all hard in with advertisement and bring clients so they can hire freelancer instead of go to consulting company?

After 10 years as a consultant in IT & development, I've witnessed a major industry problem: these large consulting companies are driven purely by profit, not results. The difference is stark. Freelancers are genuinely dedicated to service quality and client relationships. Big consulting firms? They don't care whether clients actually want them, whether the work meets expectations, or whether the relationship survives, they've already been paid.

Yet companies continue chasing big names like Capgemini, Accenture, and Deloitte, despite consistently poor outcomes.

This is where Upwork should be positioning itself. These consulting firms are their real competitors, not other platforms. Upwork's marketing strategy needs to be far more aggressive about this market reality. The message should be simple:

Why pay consulting firms premium rates for mediocre results and indifference when you can hire dedicated freelancers who depend on quality work and client satisfaction?

Upwork should directly challenge the consulting model showcase case studies where freelancers delivered better value, highlight the accountability difference, and make it culturally acceptable for companies to choose freelance talent over traditional consultancies.

I'm not getting refund for my boost bid anymore, why?

Before I used to get refund from upwork when I use it to boost bid, but now I cannot see any refund even when I'm outbid from the bid list.

I used to get a notification like: We refunded you 80 Connects: You've been outbid to boost your proposal for UX Design needed. Don't worry, we'll still show it to the client.

someone knows why?
